Branson Duck Boat Tragedy Leaves 17 Dead

Branson, Missouri is known for its immense line-up of iconic attractions, from Silver Dollar City to Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede. Also included in this wide array of attractions is Ride the Ducks Branson, which is owned by Ripley Entertainment. However, tourists might now think twice about adding this attraction to their vacation to-do list after one duck boat capsized in Table Rock Lake on Thursday, July 19.

A severe thunderstorm was issued about 40 minutes prior to the boat tipping over. Winds were reported to be blowing as hard as 65mph in the area at the time, according to the National Weather Service. There were 31 people onboard the boat when it tipped, killing 17 of those passengers and injuring several others.

The “ boat shouldn’t have been in the water ,” said Jim Patterson, Jr., president of Ripley Entertainment. Unfortunately, this is not the first time that a duck ride has been at the center of a tragedy such as this. A similar incident occurred in 1999 when 13 people died while touring Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

A further investigation into the tragedy on Table Rock Lake is ongoing.

Odom Law Firm expresses our sincerest condolences to both the victims of this tragedy and their loved ones. We are truly saddened by the heartache caused by this preventable incident.
