Name Change: Not as Easy as a Click of a Button

Have you ever logged into your favorite social media site and noticed that one of your friends has changed their name to “Captain America” or “James Bond”? Perhaps you were confused for a second as to whose pictures exactly you were looking at, only to realize Bill or Susan changed their name (or “twitter handle”) to hide their identities from future employers.
Changing your name on social media can be as easy as clicking a button. However, many people want to change their real
names, for a variety of reasons: they forgot to ask their attorney to change their last name after a divorce; they want to honor a deceased loved-one; or perhaps they are hiding from a stalker.
Even state agencies desire a name change. Recently, the House in Utah introduced a bill to change the name of their transit from Utah Transit Agency to Transit District of Utah, coming with a massive price tag of up to $50 million!
Though Facebook may not require you to explain the reason for changing your name, the courts require an explanation for your name change. The Odom Law Firm will help you navigate this process and help you identify the proper agencies you will need to notify of your name change (and we promise, we won’t charge $50 million).
